Had you been in London on the banks of the River Thames around 5.30am on Thursday 6th May, looking skyward, you would have seen Laura Kenny and Max Whitlock above the roof of Somerset House perched next to a fluttering Union Jack flag.
And were you to check breakfast television and Team GB’s announcements later that morning, you would have understood what on earth she was doing up there.
The day marked the long-awaited reveal and launch of Team GB’s Tokyo 2020 Olympic kit. As a longstanding Adidas athlete Laura had the pleasure of unveiling the new kit overlooking the City skyline at sunrise.
Marking Adidas’ 10th year as Team GB’s official kit provider, and Laura’s third Olympic Games, the kit was launched in style. She joined an array of Adidas and Team GB athletes including Max Whitlock, Tom Daley and Shauna Coxsey, who will be competing in Tokyo this Summer.
After much trepidation following the postponement of the Games last year, the Team GB kit unveiling felt all the more poignant, in the city that hosted such a tremendously successful Olympic Games of 2012. As the dawn rose over the London skyline, so did our spirits and hopes for what must be the most anticipated Games in recent Olympic history.
Worth the early call time? We think so….
